Prior to co-founding Exus Management Partners, Luis was a member of the Executive Committee of EDP Renewables (EDPR), the third largest wind developer in the world. While at EDPR, from 2004 to 2008, Luis was the Chief Financial Officer and from 2008 to 2012, as Chief Business Development Officer, he was responsible for expanding EDPR international business covering 11 different geographies.Previously Luis worked at McKinsey & Co., where he is currently also Senior External Advisor for Renewable Energies.
Luis received his M.B.A from INSEAD, his Master in Risk Management from NYU - Leonard N. Stern School of Business and has a degree in Economics from Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
Prior to joining EXUS in 2020, Luis founded EIRA Capital, an investment platform that focuses on Energy and Infrastructure transactions in Mexico, and selected countries in Latin America. Also, Luis was previously part of Macquarie, where he spent more than seven years in the Macquarie Capital and Macquarie Funds divisions, working on fund capital raising, equity investments, and asset management activities, as well as third party advisory on energy and infrastructure transactions in Mexico and Latin America. During his years at Macquarie, he also held board positions in the several investments made by Macquarie which covered energy, PPPs, roads, and telecom companies.Luis' previous involvement at financial institutions include positions in the investment banking teams of Deutsche Bank's M&A group in New York, and Citibank's Banamex Accival M&A group in Mexico.
In addition, Luis currently participates as: (i) Independent Member of the Investment Committee of INFONAVIT's Investment Fund; (ii) independent board member of COX Energy Americas; (iii) independent board member of SIMPATI Mobile; and (iv) founder of Fundación Reversible, a new charitable foundation focused on global warming issues. Luis holds an MBA from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at NYU in New York, and a BA in Accounting and Finance from ITESM in Mexico.
Dhaval is a Partner at Exus and is responsible for the Operations team. He has 15 years of experience in the renewable energy industry and was previously the Director of Asset Optimization at EverPower Wind Holdings. He was also a Wind Turbine Performance and Diagnostics Engineer for General Electric Renewable Energy. Dhaval has an Aerospace Engineering degree from Penn State.
Nicolás has worked in the finance sector of the renewable energy industry for 12 years.
He was previously an investment banker at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Royal Bank of Canada and Nomura/Lehman Brothers with a focus on energy. Nicolás has deep knowledge of power & renewable energy markets with expertise in M&A, project finance and financial structuring.
He has a BA & MA in Business Administration and a BA & MA in Law from CUNEF (Spain).
Prior to co-founding Exus Management Partners, Nelson served as Business Development Director at Iberwind and Finerge groups, two of the largest renewable energy operators in Iberia. He has devoted all his career to the energy sector and has focused on renewable energy for the last 20 years, having been responsible for the development and construction of more than 700 MW of wind and solar projects in Portugal and other European countries.
Nelson is a Mechanical Engineer from the University of Coimbra and holds a MSc in Thermal Engineering from the University of Porto.
Before co-founding Exus Management Partners, between 2010 and 2014 Diogo was a director of Plenium Partners, an investment firm focused on renewable energy with 2B euro of assets under management. Between 2009 and 2010, Diogo worked at the European Investment Fund where he was involved in direct investments in private equity and venture capital funds in Spain and Portugal. Previously, he worked for Banco BPI in Portugal as part of the Project Finance Team. Diogo started his career on the Boston Consulting Group, Lisbon office, where he was a member of the Energy Practice Area team.
Diogo received his M.B.A. from IE Business School and graduated in Business Management from Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
Prior joining Exus, Nacho was Director of Investments in Banco Sabadell Capital, unit dedicated to invest in Private Equity and Growth Capital, leading the specific vehicle to invest, develop, construction and exploitation of renewable energy projects (wind farm, mini hydro, PVs plants, etc.).
Nacho has a deep knowledge in the energy sector in Spain and abroad, being responsible for the development and construction over 50 investment transactions in Renewable Energy projects totalling c.1,800 MW, representing more than 1,840 M€ of enterprise value and has invested more than 140 M€ in equity in the past 15 years.
He was also member of the Board of Directors for all the subsidiary companies involved into renewable energy owned by Banco Sabadell.Previously, he developed technical functions, in civil work management and special work in the construction sector.
Nacho holds a MsC in Industrial Management Engineering from ETSEIB and BSc in Mechanical Engineerig from EUETIB. He also holds a MBA from UPC (Universidad Politécnica de Catalunya) and PDG (General Management Program) from IESE Barcelona (Universidad de Navarra).
Mike has worked in the renewables sector for 20 years and comes to Exus from the American Clean Power Association (formerly the American Wind Energy Association). He has deep experience in both project development public policy, including both national and local work. Mike was one of the first employees at EverPower Wind Holdings, where he worked for 13 years and was instrumental in growing the company.
Mike has done extensive environmental protection work including establishing the Wind and Wildlife Research Fund, to help protect wildlife near windfarms.
He has a masters degree from MIT and is responsible for the Development team at Exus North America.
Jim has thirty-five years of experience in the power industry managing the development and financing of energy projects in both developed and underdeveloped countries. He was the founder, president and CEO of Ever Power Wind Holdings, a national utility scale development and operating wind company, for 16 years. Currently Jim is the Managing Partner of Exus North America Management Partners.
Jim began his career as an attorney in the energy project finance group at Chadbourne & Parke LLP. He moved to Prudential Capital Corporation to work in the Utilities & Finance Group. He then spent more than a decade at Sithe Energies, Inc., including four years as President of Sithe Asia Holdings Limited; he was responsible for the business development and project finance activities throughout the Asia Pacific Region.
Jim received a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
With over 15 years of experience in the energy sector, Carlos served as Chief Operating Officer of Plenium Partners where he managed c.1.000 MW portfolio of wind, hydro, photovoltaic and concentrated solar power projects in several EU countries, before co-founding Exus Management Partners.Prior to Plenium he worked for Scottish Power Renewable (United Kingdom) and Iberdrola (Spain) where he focused on the management, development, operations and maintenance of energy projects.
Carlos graduated from University of KTH Stockholm (Sweden), EMN Nantes (France) and ETSII at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain) with an MSc in Management and Engineering of Environment and Energy.
Aygen has 25 years of project finance and equity investment experience inemerging markets. His areas of expertise include public and private financing of power generation, transmission, and distribution projects, privatizations of energy and infrastructure assets, energy sector restructuring, transport and municipal infrastructure concessions, oil and gas downstream projects and renewable energy investments.
Aygen has previously spent more than ten years at EBRD’s headquarters in London, and three and a half years heading EBRD’s country offices in the Balkans and the Caucasus. Aygen then joined IFC’s Infrastructure Department, covering Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Turkey. Aygen was also the founder of the first private equity and asset management firm focused on renewable assets inthe region.
Aygen has a B.A. from Ankara University and an M.A. from SAIS, Johns Hopkins University. He is a Fulbright scholar and is one of the founding members of EMPEA’s Energy and Infrastructure Council.
Justine Vanella is a Commercial Director for Exus NA. She previously was a Commercial Manager at Centrica and has nine years of experience in the renewable energy industry with a focus in risk analytics and North American energy markets. Justine has a BS in Finance from The Pennsylvania State University.
Robert Warner is the Site Manager for the Cambria Wind Farm. He has worked in wind energy for 15+ years and has a background in construction electricity and power generation. Robert is a Veteran of the U.S. Army.
Clark joined Exus as a Development Manager in late 2022. Clark has held various positions responsible for the development, sales and construction of solar systems and energy efficiency projects for more than 10 years, at companies such as Borrego and Enter Solar. Before entering the clean energy field, he completed nearly thirty open space acquisitions at a nonprofit land conservation organization. He received his B.A. from Wesleyan University.
Joey Ward is an M&A Associate for Exus NA. He was previously a senior analyst for Edgewater Group and has seven years of experience in investment analysis and M&A. He has a BSBA degree from University of Denver with a finance concentration and a secondary major in economics, and is a CFA® charterholder.
Erik Widner is the Technical Directorin the Pittsburgh office. He was previously a BOP Site Supervisor for E.ON Energy Services who also served various roles in operations at EverPower Wind Holdings. Erik has in-depth knowledge of renewable energy electrical infrastructure and daily site operations and has a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
